The 6th Annual New England Urban Music Awards (NEUMA) will be held April 30, 2011, at the historical Strand Theatre, 543 Columbia Road, and this year’s theme is a “Tribute to Women in Music.” This will be a family-friendly event.
The diverse musical event will be hosted by Boston’s “Favorite Baked Bean and Mid Day Mama,” Courtney Boston of TOUCH WTCH 106.1 FM. Special performances by two all-female singing groups: Universal Motown recording artists Jada will perform their soulful version of the Beatles “Oh Darlin” and their original song “It Ain’t Like That,” and Right Time Records pop sensation group New View will perform their single “The Limit.” Talented dance groups performing: Boston’s own “America’s Best” Dance Crew, Status Quo and New England’s premier dance studio, OrigiNation, Incorporated directed by Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga will set the tone with an electrifying opening performance. The Goonies, a hip-hop, pop duo, Julian (Juice) Ross and Michael Minelli, will perform their hit single, “The Life of a Dreamer.” The group is signed to New Music Chronicles the new label from Glen “G Wiz” Parrish and Shannon Allen, wife of Boston Celtics all time three-point record holder Ray Allen. Marvin McIntyre, of Marvelous Artist Development Center in Atlanta, will be in attendance. The event will also include special guest and celebrity appearances.
One artist who performs at the 2011 NEUMA will be selected to sing during the National Urban League Conference Gala in July at the invitation of Darnell Williams, president and CEO of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts. Charles Clemons, owner and founder of the NEUMA said, “The NEUMA means the Grammy Awards of the West Coast is happening on the East Coast. Local artists have this award show that displays appreciation to the hard work and dedication they have done for the last year. It also spotlights artists in the community that people may not have heard of previously. It inspires local and upcoming artists right here in our community and throughout New England.”
